Will I understand the message even if I don’t know much about the Bible?
Our messages are prepared to connect with your life by presenting the ageless wisdom of Scripture in a creative, yet straight-forward way. The services are designed to be easily understood by individuals who are investigating what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus, as well as those who have been committed Christ-followers for many years. We hope you’ll find our services to be incredibly helpful in your spiritual growth.

What if I come from a different faith background?
While South Side is associated with the American Baptist Association in its denominational affiliation, people who attend come from a wide variety of faith backgrounds – Church of Christ, Pentecost, etc. Together, we focus on biblical truth and teachings, and pursuing an active relationship with Jesus Christ. You don’t have to be a member of a specific religious denomination to do that. However, If you feel the Holy Spirit moving you to become a member of South Side Baptist Church, walk the isle and speak to our Pastor. With your profession of faith in Jesus Christ and your Scriptural Baptism, we’ll be glad to welcome you into our fold.

Do I have to dress up?
Not at all!  At South Side, you’ll see lots of people in jeans and khakis and not so many in suits and dresses. You’re welcome to dress casually. Come as you are.

Where are the hymnals?
At South Side, you’ll encounter a wide variety of worship music styles each week that you can relate to and which reflect our current culture. Our Worship Leader along with our praise band leads attenders in modern, upbeat songs of celebration as well as more intimate songs of worship. Live video and song lyrics are projected on the screen so you can have your hands free, look up, and engage in worship wholeheartedly.

How do people at South Side express worship?
“Worship” involves communication with God from our hearts. We believe in a variety of different expressions in worshiping God. On the stage, you might see worship leaders clapping or raising their hands while they sing and the musicians playing various instruments. Sometimes other visuals or even our Teen Drama team are also incorporated into our services as acts of worship. As a South Side attendee, you are welcome to worship God in a way you feel expresses your heart toward Him. For some, that’s quietly reflecting on the words and, for others, that’s clapping, singing out and raising of hands.

Movie clips, drama and videos – in church?
Often it’s helpful during a message to illustrate real life situations through a movie clip, dramatic sketch or other creative ways. Sometimes these outlets may not be from “Christian” resources, but we often find great insights into the human condition from them. We screen words and subject content closely for use in our church services.

Is there something for the kids?
South Side has programming for your entire family. Programming for children (birth-5th grade) is available during all of our services and programming for students (6th-12th grade) is available on Sunday mornings during our 9:00 and 10:45 am services. While parents are peacefully enjoying the service, kids can have fun and learn about God at their level. For more information, browse around our website, ask any usher at the door when you arrive.

Are you going to ask me for money?
If you are new to South Side, please don’t feel any pressure to give. People will never be pressured to give money here, but members are encouraged to invest in the work of ministry at South Side by generously sharing from their God-given resources. The offerings which we receive during our services support the many ministries of our church as well as missions work around the world.

What if I’m not even sure I believe in God?
If you haven’t made a decision to accept Christ, but would like to know more about it, you’re a seeker – and that’s a good thing! That means you’re asking questions about spiritual things and how they might relate to your life. You are welcome to explore answers to your questions here.

How do I get involved?
Attending Sunday services is a great start, but we hope you’ll move beyond being just part of our Sunday crowd. You can further your faith, meet people, and learn more about life as a Christ-follower by getting involved.
